Todd, chief executive officer of Xanterra Parks & Resorts, parent company of Windstar Cruises.

“Windstar just welcomed back the renovated Star Pride, and since taking ownership of Windstar in 2011, we have invested more than $40 million into our three sailing yachts and three motorized all-suite yachts, so this is an ideal time for John to join the company and contribute to its success.”

Christmas Market river cruises: For quintessential magic and unusual shopping

Sophisticated Cruise Specialists at Crown Cruise Vacations Provide Exclusive Offers, Exceptional Value & Unparalleled Service

News Release: Princeton, N.J. (June 23, 2016) – Celebrate the Christmas season with festive journeys aboard a Christmas Market river cruise and bask in the holiday atmosphere. Christmas Markets are generally open from the beginning of Advent (late November) until right before Christmas, but you have to plan ahead as these river cruises tend to sell out early, says Crown Cruise Vacations President Ross Spalding.

What and when are the Christmas markets?
The history of Christmas markets goes back to the late middle ages in the German-speaking parts of Europe. The Vienna “December Market” was a forerunner of the Christmas market and dates back to 1294. In many of the charming towns and villages in Germany and Austria, Advent is usually ushered in with the opening of the Christmas markets. This is truly an old fashioned Christmas.

Medieval in appearance, they are held in the town square. You have never seen Christmas lights until you have been to the European Christmas markets. There are unusual handmade gifts such as nativity scenes, handmade children’s toys and unique art. Experience master glassblowers selling baubles and find idiosyncratic decorations that surely will be treasured for years. Pass Gothic Churches scented of frankincense and myrrh while all of your senses are awakened to the smells of gingerbread, cloves, sugar cakes and ale.
